The first few weeks of the new year we have conversations about our expectations and intentions. Many of us take this time to reevaluate everything. Of course, we’ve talked about what intentions we have for the continued success of J+J Team Homes.  But conversations have also turned into reflecting on what our personal aspirations are for this year too.  We want to go through 2023 living intentionally, cultivating our relationships and choosing happiness.

What Advice Would You Give Yourself?

As Sahil Bloom, a Stanford grad turned entrepreneur and creator, prepared for a recent birthday, he spoke to a number of 90-year-olds.  He asked them a single question, “If you could speak to your 32-year-old self, what advice would you give?”

We LOVE their responses, so much that we picked our favorites. We might even call these our true intentions and aspirations for 2023.  What are your favorite answers?  Throw the numbers into the comments below or onto the J+J Team Homes social media.  Even better, reach out – we’d love to talk more about this list.  Each response is precious.

Jaime’s Ways to Live Intentionally

#1: Now and then, break out the fancy china and drink the good wine for no reason at all.

#2: Dance at weddings until your feet are sore.

#3: Tell your partner you love them every night before falling asleep.

#7: Do one good deed every single day, but never tell anyone about it.

#17: Never let a good friendship atrophy.

#20: The “good old days” are always happening right now.

#22: If it’s raining on a warm summer evening, go outside and dance in it.

#23: Taking no risk is the biggest risk you can take.

#35: Allow your kids to fail. You will hate it, but it’s so important.

#39: Smile and say good morning to strangers on the street.

Julie’s Favorite Ways to Live Intentionally

#1: Now and then, break out the fancy china and drink the good wine for no reason at all.

#3: Tell your partner you love them every night before falling asleep.

#5: Treat your body like a house you have to live in for another 70 years.

#7: Do one good deed every single day, but never tell anyone about it.

#9: Find things that light up your life. Do more of those.

#23: Taking no risk is the biggest risk you can take. Regret from inaction is always more painful than the regret from action.

#33: Do one thing that challenges your mind every single day.

#35: Allow your kids to fail. You will hate it, but it’s so important.

#38: If your kid wants to dance in line at the store, join them.

The Keys to Happiness

The world’s longest “happiness study”, found three common threads among the parents of happy kids that expressed/demonstrated in the home:

  • HONESTY
  • AWARENESS
  • OPTIMISM

At J+J Team Homes, we think the same thing can be said about an excellent real estate agent!

Two important points Dr. Robert Waldinger makes about the Happiness Study research on this Harvard Business Review podcast.

1. Later in life, men wish they hadn’t spent so much time at work and more time with loved ones.

2. Women wish they hadn’t worried so much about what people thought about them.

Good Relationships Lead Us Through a Good Life

What makes life fulfilling and meaningful? The simple but surprising answer is relationships. The stronger our relationships, the more likely we are to live happy, satisfying, and overall healthier lives. Bottom line: good relationships keep us healthier and happier.  Discover more by checking out this new book on the world’s longest scientific study on happiness, simply titled: The Good Life. It’s a fascinating read.

As real estate agents, we truly value the relationships we form with everyone throughout the entire process. This includes the buyer and the seller.  But also the relationship with other agents, stagers, interior designers, handymen, neighbors and partners. Our motto is that it is not about the house it is about the people. We care about the people we work with and we work every day to make sure our clients are being taken care of. Honesty, awareness and optimism are common threads in how we execute our work every day and how we strive to live our lives.
